Becoming the woman God called you to be requires more than prayer.
I've been thinking a lot lately about the woman I'm praying to become. (Been posting on this topic for a while now.) The mother I want to be. The wife I want to be. The disciple of Jesus I'm called to be. And something God has been teaching me is that I can't keep praying for transformation while avoiding the very things that require me to change.
James 2:17 reminds us that faith without works is dead.
& while we are saved by grace through faith, not by our works, a living faith should produce action.
We can't just pray for patience and never practice it.
Pray for discipline and continue choosing comfort.
Pray for a stronger marriage but never intentionally nurture it.
Pray to grow closer to Jesus but never make room for Him in our everyday lives.
Pray for the Fire. Then Tend to It. 🔥
I've started asking God not only to help me become the woman He's calling me to be, but to ignite a fire in me to actually do the things that will get me there. Because sometimes we're waiting for God to miraculously change our habits, routines, and circumstances when He's already given us opportunities to take the first step.
And no, this doesn't mean doing everything in our own strength.
Philippians 2:13 reminds us that God works in us, giving us both the desire and the ability to do what pleases Him.
We depend on His strength, but we still have a responsibility to respond.
Sometimes that looks like waking up earlier.
Choosing patience when you're exhausted.
Opening your Bible even when you only have ten minutes.
Apologizing first.
Being consistent in the little things nobody sees.
You Don't Become Her Overnight
I've learned that becoming the woman God has called me to be isn't about one extraordinary moment of motivation.
It's about a thousand little decisions made in obedience. And some days, those decisions are harder than others. But I don't want to spend my life praying to become someone I'm unwilling to take the steps to become.
So my prayer lately has been simple:
Lord, give me the desire, the discipline, and the strength to become who You've called me to be. Set my heart on fire for the things that matter to You, and help me put my faith into action. Because faith isn't just believing God can transform your life.
It's trusting Him enough to take the next step.
With love,
Coco 🤎
